Students may further specialize through accounting certificates in forensics, analytics, government/non-profit, or government contracts.

Curriculum

The Master of Science in Accounting program requires 10 courses: 5 are required core courses and 5 are elective courses. Complete the degree in 11 months (full-time) or 22 months (part-time). 

Whether you pursue the program on-campus in the evenings (Fairfax, VA) or online (asynchronously), you’ll experience the same rigorous and relevant accounting courses taught by experienced faculty who bring both theoretical and applied expertise to the classroom by incorporating daily opportunities to connect business theory with reality through role-playing, simulations, projects, and guest speakers.

Enhance Your Master's with a Certificate

Alongside their degree, students can earn two credentials in one by completing a graduate certificate through concentrated electives within the master’s program. All graduate certificates are also available as standalone options for anyone looking to quickly upskill in a specialized discipline.

Who is eligible to apply? 

Our program welcomes students from any undergraduate major or professional background. Prior accounting coursework is not required to be eligible for the Costello Master of Science in Accounting program.

Is the MS in Accounting program STEM-designated? 

Yes. The MS in Accounting is a STEM-designated program. The STEM designation provides F-1 visa students the benefit of working in the United States for up to 36 months. Traditionally, with an F-1 visa in a non-STEM program, an F1 student would be eligible for up to 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) authorized work. With this STEM designation, F-1 students are allowed to extend their OPT period by up to 24 months.

How long will it take for me to complete the Master of Science in Accounting program?

If you enter the program with a bachelor's degree in accounting, you can complete the program in 11 months as a full-time student. Part-time students typically complete the program in two years.
